Blade design affects pressure distribution, high-speed behaviour and protection of joints from dirt. No design performs well with the wrong length, a weak arm, an unsuitable adapter or a damaged windscreen.
01How the designs differ
- Conventional blades use a linked frame and can follow complex windscreen curvature well.
- Flat blades use a sprung strip and low profile but need the correct pre-formed curve.
- Hybrid blades cover a frame with a shell, combining pressure distribution with mechanism protection.
- Winter performance also depends on rubber condition, heating and regular cleaning, not design alone.
A practical choice
Start with compatibility, length and attachment, then consider climate and driving speed. If the original design wipes evenly, there is no need to change it for appearance alone. Missed areas can come from a worn arm or contaminated glass rather than a new blade.
