Why wheel diameter alone is not enough

An R17 listing does not describe all wheel dimensions. Width, bolt pattern, offset, centre bore, load rating and clearances also matter.

Checks, step by step

  1. Photograph the old wheel's markings and record the complete specification. Diameter and width commonly use inches; ET and DIA use millimetres. PCD describes hole count and bolt-circle diameter.

  2. Check vehicle and wheel requirements. Matching PCD does not establish brake or suspension clearance. A casual claim that a few millimetres do not matter is not an approved tolerance.

  3. Agree fasteners, tyres and pressure sensors separately. Have a workshop check installation against documentation before use. Send vehicle, current specification and desired size for a specific proposal.
