Glass selection depends on its type and attached equipment. Start with an overall photo, the corner marking and the area around the interior mirror.
Three photos for glass selection
1
Whole glass: which one needs replacing
2
Corner: close-up of markings
3
Near the mirror: camera and sensors
What to do, step by step
Identify the glass and vehicle
Windscreen, rear or side glass? For side glass, state door and side. Add make, model and production year.
Take the three photos shown
Photograph from a safe position without touching sharp edges. Glass markings can identify a standard or maker rather than OEM. A marking alone does not establish fitment.
Check equipment and fitting
Mention heating, rain sensor and head-up display if fitted. If a driver-assistance camera sits behind the glass, ask the installer whether calibration is required after replacement.
More detail and common mistakes
- Photograph the glass marking and mirror area. List rain sensor, heating, camera and HUD where fitted. A similar vehicle photo does not confirm camera equipment.
- Confirm package contents: glass, mouldings, frames and mounting pieces may be separate. For side glass, identify the door and side in the direction of travel.
- Agree packaging and collection beforehand. Determine ADAS camera calibration requirements from vehicle documentation and discuss them with the installer.
